I have to hype this one ! KRKN 009. Finally more vinyl featuring the brilliance of 2000F & JKamata. It's been a long wait - at least when you're crawing the flawless productions of this production duo. This one's a well lubed remix job that the two slicksters were comissioned to do for danish band Turboweekend. It's received heavy support from the likes of Joker, Skream and Bunzer0.
On the flip is JSL's updated version of "Raw Love", which he already created a rework of earlier released on KRKN002. This time around it's even more gritty and heavy. Truly raw !

SKANK Sound continues their succesful friday dubstep club in the Rust basement. Last friday the place was packed solid for the "Dansk Dubstep Design" release party. Every time SKANK sound brings pure bass vibes and keeps pushing the dubstep sound to new crowds through the basement's Funktion One rig.
Now they are stepping things up even further and are bringing Dubstep Forum head BunZer0 to Copenhagen straight from Belgium to treat the Rust crowd with his DJ'ing skills and a big bag of dubplate business.
This night danish producers Nasha are also guesting the basement in celebration of their release on Powacut Productions. Last I heard them was at the Warehouse 9 party in June, where they brought heavy undergound vibes.

Denmark finest join forces with Swedish crew All Out Dubstep, when Melmö venue Inkonst opens the doors after a major renovation. Both AOD and OHOI have brought some huge names to Scandinavia this year, and have massive bookings still to come. All Out Dubstep are running things hard in Sweden spreading their events across the cities of Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö - a true blessing to the Swedish (and Danish) dubstep heads.
This fall they've got N-Type + Flowdan and Silkie playing in Malmö (two separate parties). In Stockholm it's pure madness with names like Chefal, L.D., Distance, Babylon System, Noah-D, Friction and Silkie amongst many others. If you live in Sweden you NEED to sign up to the AOD facebook group so you can get the latest on their raves.
AOD met with Wobble Squad on Copenhagen turf in June this year, but I feel it's very fitting for them to invite the champion sound of OHOI to Malmö. Looking forward to this one.

Last time Bar9 visited Støberiet they tore the place to pieces !!! I was feeling every bit. In my mind they are absolute masters of the more rough and dark strain of dubstep. Unleashing cascades of distorted wobbles, which are anything but boring thanks to the two producers ability to constantly warp the sounds and bring new flavour to their tracks. The duo has been highly productive for the last couple of years and have been very consistent with respect to quality. Ultra fine releases on Z Audio and sublabel Audiofreaks - essential buying.
Also this evening Finnish producer 501, who has some nice stuff out on Veri Lo and Dutch label Subway.
Notorious Copenhagen LFO-headz Wobble Squad are bringing their regular reckless mayhem of wobble sounds.
Furthermore the "La Cuchina Som Sistema" Crew straight out of Funen (Fyn), Denmark will be in the building. Large crew with DJ's Morden and Poulplade amongst their members - these guys have had a fair bit of gigs in the Copenhagen area recently.

Tuesday the 11th of august the Strøm Festival kicks off in Copenhagen. The opening event is actually planned by JKamata and 2000F, featuring live electronic music in the Copenhagen metro. The music will be improvised to match the changing cityscapes. Great idea ! Check that event out here.

But for a proper dosage of bass from some of dubstep's absolutely finest though, you'll want to hit the Kødboderne 18 club on Saturday the 15th. Copenhagen badmen OHOI crew have once again brought an absolute basher of a booking to the Copenhagen bassheads.
This time it's Silkie, Quest, Jay 5, Razor and Harry Craze from Anti Social Entertainment who will be serving up some of their crisp dubstep sounds. Their take on the dubstep sound has for quite a while been making huge waves on the dubstep scenes around the globe.
Since I first heard Silkie's "Hooby/I Sed" on Mala's Deep Medi label, I have been loving this sound to the maximum, and as missed Silkie @ DMZ 4th this year - I cannot wait for next saturday.
Also the OHOI crew wil be playing - and you know they're gonna bring it correct as always.

"JSL - E500 AMG / Evolution II" 12" out on Red Volume

Finally the 12" from JSL with the two tracks "E500 AMG / Evolution II" drops on swedish label Red Volume.
"E500 AMG" is a nice blissed out track with plenty of pads and mellow ravey flavors. The title as per usual hinting at JSL's great love of cars.
"Evolution II" is a solid wobbler, which has evolved from the track "What U Know?". It features some teeth-grinding bass sound and has a super-nice distant reverb sound. Big !

This time they are back in collaboration with Basscamp, and they've got a HUUUUGE booking. There should be no need to state how essential this is.
Digital Mystikz are some of the true originators of dubstep and are still representing the heavy old school sound to the fullest, yet bringing new sounds and pushing things forward - in their own leaned back fashion. The venue for this big night is Inkonst - the pivoltal point of the electronic music scene in Malmö. I can not wait for this !

Stengade 30 is closing

Last Friday the terrible news hit - Copenhagen's prime underground venue 'Stengade 30' will be deprived of financial support from the municipality of Copenhagen. In a press release from the Culture- and Leisure Committee concerning crisis support for music venues the shattering news are contained in what I would describe as a footnote.

Stengade 30 has long been struggling with economic issues, and means have been withheld from the municipality for a long period, this has certainly not helped to improve the situation. The case has been evolving rapidly over the last week, and this Thursday it was announced that the venue is forced to close.

Stengade 30 is nothing short of legendary in Copenhagen nightlife and has been playing a crucial role in various underground music scenes of Copenhagen. This is a huge blow also to the dubstep scene. The venue has been in existence for 38 years, and I can't begin to name the numerous huge events I've attended there. I am in deep despair over this and am still - maybe unrealistically - hoping that Stengade 30 will somehow be able to resurrect.

Since Thursday the closing parties have been ongoing, and tomorrow the final event is going down, with original reggae champion DJ David Rodigan showing up to give respect to "Rub'a'Dub Sundays". Firehouse will be hosting a BBQ street bashment. Remember to bring butane gas and lightas.

Big ups til J'espére

Jeg bliver lige nødt til oppe J'espére ... så vidt jeg kunne forstå, var han drivkraft bag Warehouse 9 festen i lørdags. Han spillede et set med næsten udelukkende egne produktioner. Desværre for mange spillede han rimelig tidligt, så det kun var en lille heldig skare, der kunne nyde hans produktioner.

Efter eget udsagn har han produceret dubstep i et års tid, og hans set var organiseret forholdsvis kronologisk. Stilmæssigt var de første tunes rigtig dybe og minimale - feel'et mindede mig om gamle Mystikz tunes. En sound som jeg savner så meget til dubstep fester generelt.
De nyere produktioner havde bestemt også en dyb meditativ stemning. De havde ikke særlig mange breakdowns og drops men udviklede sig meget lineært. En stil der tvinger én til at stene sig rigtig godt ind i beats og synth-lydenes udvikling. Men det var ikke udelukkende stener-stil ... der var også lidt mere rullende tracks, så man ikke faldt helt hen.

J'espére har en baggrund indenfor klassisk indisk musik og har spillet sitar i mange år. En baggrund som muligvis kan forklare hans evner til at skabe hypnotiserende progressioner. Jeg er meget spændt på hvad der kommer fra ham i fremtiden.

Heldigt for de der missede hans to gigs sidste uge, spiller han fredag på Stengade 30 til Wobble Trouble #2. Get to know !

According to the homepage of 'Dansk Dubstep Design' the two tracks 'Farligt' and 'Spines' along with two other tracks will see vinyl within the coming month.
The EP will be released on the danish label Dustbin.
'Dansk Dubstep Design' consists of the two producers Don Skeleton (Rune Rawson) and Ballistics (Casper Meinhardt), who are also associated with the energetic live drum'n'bass act F.U.K.T, which by the way have upcoming shows in Odense,Denmark on 19/6-2009 and in Amsterdam on 26/6-2009.

I think this is a fitting interview to post in the early life of this blog, as local dubstep don 2000F along with his maties JSL, Kristobal and Tim Driver from OHOI! crew, have been the main force in pushing the dubstep scene in Copenhagen to it's current level. They have been delivering bass broadsides to the Copenhagen nightlife for years through massive parties as well as releases on their Kraken Recordings label.

Last year 2000F and fellow producer JKamata got a major boost, when Bristol wonderboy Joker dropped their single 'You don't know what love is' on the BBC Radio One "Generation Bass" show in August 2008. The track had been circulating for a couple of years but gained massive support after "Generation Bass". It hit vinyl this year on Kode9's prestigous and forward-thinking Hyperdub label. The track has crossed over in ways the two producers would never have imagined and it still seems to be picked up by a growing number of DJ's. There is no doubt, that a great deal of people are anxiously awaiting new material from the two. Check out their remix of Turboweekend's 'Something or Nothing'.
